The project offered an opportunity to design and install artwork in Whitefield Park, Stanley Road, Whitefield, Bury. Numerous stories and memories were kindly shared by those involved in the consultation for this project. From these stories, a proposal to manufacture and install 121 multi-coloured bird sculptures was developed.
The idea behind the proposed installation refers to a well loved aviary of ‘fancy birds’ that once occupied the old pond area of the Victorian era park. The theme behind the colours or ‘flavours’ aims to acknowledge the sweets made by the old Halls Sweet factory which once stood on Stanley Road.
