The Blu Marble, 2020
Each week, tonnes of Blu Tack — a sticky, plastic-y household staple — are produced. Using equal measures of Blu Tack Original and White, I transformed this synthetic material into small, hand-formed “plastic planets,” echoing NASA’s iconic The Blue Marble photograph from the Apollo 17 mission to the Moon.
These miniature worlds reveal the artificiality of much of our environment, drawing attention to mass production, plastic proliferation, and humanity’s impact on the planet. Playful at first glance, the work carries a darker resonance, inviting reflection on consumption, material waste, and environmental fragility.
