Blu Marble

The Blu Marble (2020)

Each week, tonnes of mounting putty — a familiar synthetic household staple — are produced. Using equal measures of blue and white putty, I transformed this everyday material into a series of small, hand-formed planets, echoing NASA's iconic The Blue Marble photograph taken during the Apollo 17 mission to the Moon.

These miniature worlds reveal the artificial nature of much of our built environment, drawing attention to mass production, material consumption, and humanity's impact on the planet. Playful at first glance, the work carries a darker resonance, inviting reflection on environmental fragility, waste, and the consequences of a culture increasingly shaped by disposable materials.
